Community - Alliance for the Lost Boys of Sudan Foundation Helps to Raise Awareness

Raising Awareness About The Lost Boys and Others From the South of Sudan

Joan Hecht, Stephen Deng, and James Mayong

teach children about Africa.

In an effort to create awareness for the plight of the Sudanese people, our founder and President, Joan Hecht, and numerous Lost Boys, have spoken at schools, Churches, synagogues, and businesses around the country, helping to educate, impact and inspire audiences members to make a difference in the world. Volunteers from the Alliance have also participated in numerous volunteer projects/programs in the community and speak regularly with local and international media, government officials and community leaders to rally support and attention to the needs of the South Sudanese people. Due to heavy school, work and family schedules, volunteer efforts are limited and available only in the Jacksonville area. However, if you'd like to book Ms. Hecht, also an award winning author, and one of the Lost Boys for a presentation at your school or event, please view their contact info on the "Events" page. They offer a very compelling and educational presentation and have received rave reviews from audiences across the country.

Following presentations by Ms. Hecht and local Lost Boys, students have been inspried to organizae various projects and fund raisers to support efforts by the Alliance, such as walks, bake sales, making "Welcome to America” gift bags and baskets filled with food and essential toiletries for new Lost Boy arrivals and letter writing campaigns to local and national government officials. Students from Stetson University made a video about the Alliance and local Lost Boys, which was featured at an anti-genocide convention in Washington, DC. and students at Palmer Academy in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl., were so inspired by the Lost Boys and their stories that they wrote a letter to former, President Bush, asking him to help the people of Southern Sudan. See our "How To Help" page for additional ways that you can help!
