In an effort to bring awareness to both the similarities and differences in cultures of students in the US and The Republic of South Sudan, Alliance for the Lost Boys of Sudan President, Joan Hecht, conducted Pen Pal exchanges between students from various areas within the two countries. Through these exchanges, we sought to encourage dialogue, understanding and learning experiences for students in both countries.
One of the Pen-Pal programs was conducted prior to the Independence of South Sudan and one shortly thereafter. *This is an on-going program as security and communication issues allow, helping us to record the growth of The Republic of South Sudan education system and in helping to build lasting relationships and cultural understanding between students, who may one day, be leaders in their respective countries.
Photo’s were also exchanged between the two countries, depicting student life in schools both in the US and in the Republic of South Sudan.
