Because the Lost Boys and Girls suffered from malnutrition for most of their lives and were subjected to a variety of life-threatening illnesses and disease, many still suffer from various health and dental problems. Sadly, three of our local Lost Boys have passed away since their arrival to Jacksonville, due to health related issues. Most still bear the scars on their bodies from injuries incurred while running at night through dense African bush. Some still harbor pieces of shrapnel and bullets from the attacks launched on them as young children by government and rebel militias.
Through our health initiative, the Alliance for the Lost Boys of Sudan Foundation, has administered free medical treatment to over one hundred local Sudanese, for two life threatening illnesses that they were at risk of contracting while living in Africa. We have procured life changing surgeries for others. Please read their amazing stories by clicking on the links to the left of this page.
